1st entry begins with a RANT!
One of my clients still uses AOL Mail! I hadn't thought much of this since my job is to help her update and streamline her digital communications. Knowing that AOL e-mail is free to the rest of the world, I didn't see an urgent need to completely close the account. Then she revealed to me that AOL has been charging her each month for almost 20 years, starting at $9.99 and now $17.95 per month! Oh Lord. I immediately gained access to try and remove billing from the account and it denied any attempt.
I decided to call the customer support line to find out more. After waiting on hold for more than 15 minutes, I finally chatted with a representative and asked WHY ON EARTH my client was being charged for a free account. The representative politely informed me that AOL was not authorized to remove the billing, and that my client would have to do so on her own. Then he told me he could transfer me to the billing department who could authorize my client over the phone to remove any future charges.
Once transferred to the billing department, I waited online for an additional 10 minutes, only to be hung up on before anyone ever picked up. My session with my client ended, but she said she would go ahead and call the number to take care of it on her own. Now I am curious how many other folks are paying for what many others are getting FREE? AOL has been free for years! If you too were somehow unaware that AOL mail is free and are getting automatically billed each month, call this number and tell them to STOP BILLING you ASAP 1-800-827-6364
